Just a Thought

Lots of talk about summer camp goin on as all the peeps are back and fresh from camp. I just shrug: I've been to a few camps, missed a few camps, it's all the same after a while. In three days you can begin on a new direction in life, but you can't change a person in 3 days - you can't change your character in 3 days. No, that takes months, years...a lifetime. And I've seen it/experienced it before, in two weeks everyone is back to their normal selves.

I dunno, maybe three days in a crack house on hastings; or maybe a refugee camp in one of countless places around the world; or maybe the low-income projects where a single mom is workin two full time jobs just to feed her kids another day. That sounds like a cool retreat.

Run from the world...or into it. Just a thought.

Cheers. Don't bite too hard.

just a thought... sure... maybe ppl aren't getting their lifes changed just for the 3 days... but man... u just had to be there... ppl's lifes ARE changing.. bit by bit... and when the spirit moves... u can't doubt it..
i had muh doubts.... but for real... i can't explained what happened.. God jsut stepped in and did amazing things. who knows.. maybe God will use the little changes that happened at camp to make even bigger impacts in the person's life in the future.
just a thought bro, ciao

I know what both of yah are saying...which was why I was very careful to say that "you can begin on a new direction". Frankly, I know well enough from my own life to know that's true.
But if 3 days seem so amazing, and they seem so much higher and better than the other 362 - is there something wrong with Church? If we gotta run off into the woods just to see God do amazing things--just to recognize a clear sense of his presence--then there's something wrong huh?

Maybe my skepticism isn't with camp itself, but with the big difference felt between the camp 'high', and the day in day out 'low'.

Two spam comments in a row. The spammers are hitting, and they're hitting hard. The worst thing is, they're trying to sell me crap I don't even care about.

As always: you spam, I can.

yah. i hear what ur saying. that's what pastor steve kim was saying. It's so easy to forget who we are.. we get so comfortable when we go back to the "real" world... we let these things blind us... but we CAN'T forget who we are... God IS working in our lives in the other 362 days... but i believe that it IS up to the individual to pay attention. I think running off in the woods does hv negative effects, tho. i mean.. it IS easier to see God there, because certain things and rules restrict certain things... which in return does afffect how we precieve the rest of the 362 days.

I dunno.. haha.. just a thought.

I think my lack of any 'spiritual' returns out of the last couple camps colours my thinking about summer camp. To tell the truth, camp is a wonderful thing, but not for any particular 'Christian' reason. It has always been a good time to form/strengthen bonds and friendships with others.

But hey you know what - if you want to say that whenever relationships are built up God is there, I'm all ears. If God is all about restoring his world, and that means restoring the bonds that tie humans together, then sign me up.

Cheers guys, thanks for the great discussion.
