What's the purpose? Meh. dunno. I'll quote the good PD;

Although I do second your "just love dood"--in fact, you can boil down my Christianity to pretty much that--I think you may have missed the point of my question.
What state of reality does God want for us?
In other words, if things were "as they should be", what would that be like?
here comes the fun

there are a few theories for this:
1. If man did not sin then man would enjoy intimacy with God and vice versa and life would continue on such a way until someone sinned
2. If man has already sinned and we are in the state that we are in now...then
God wants us to be reconciled with him...to have things go back to the way they were because that is the way things are suppose to be
having said that...what reality does God then want for us in order that we may achieve this state...

That is the reality God wants for us...to live godly and righteously and to look and hope for the second advent of Jesus Christ
